Oh, Childhood

So a couple of weeks ago, I bought an Elle magazine, just on a whim, and I was flipping through it, not really paying attention to the articles on books I have no interest in reading, actors I'm never going to meet, and movies I don't won't to see, all for the sole purpose of one thing: The Fashion.

Problem? Oh, only that it only lasted about five pages. Disappointing to say the least.

Then, I remembered that as a child, my mother's friend gave me a HUGE stack of issues of a fashion magazine, that I ADORED, filled with the pretty clothes, and the stories all about fashion.

That magazine?

HARPER'S BAZAAR

So I renewed my subscription for a full year for a meager 8 bucks! Isn't that fantabulous? I like to think so.

So I was browsing their site, and they had a post on the fall fashion shows in NY. Now the vibe that I'm getting here is that the new black... is black! That makes everything easy, right?

Anyways, black and grey seem to be the main colors, though neutrals seemd to be a big hit, especially paired with colors. The evening dresses seemed to be bright and colorful as well, with very long, flowing, floaty, ethereal skirts. Only Michael Kors seemed to be bold enough to add a splash of (blinding) color to his clothes.

In the post they listed their faves, and from there, I picked MY faves (Click to view in larger window):

Zac Posen:

What I Liked: The gorgeous blue he used in the outfit below, and the overall pretty-ness of the collection, it literally took my breath away.

What I Didn't Like: The blue below? Used in a completely hideous dress, that will NOT be featured here, because tonight is all about my favorites, not my least favorites.

Proenza Schouler:

What I Liked: While I only listed one favorite, all of them were fantastic, but not really my cup of tea. Speaking in Gossip Girl terms, the prices are obviously Upper East Side (UES), but the style hints at Brooklyn, edgy, and a little grungy.

What I Didn't Like: The shoes.

Oscar De La Renta:

What I Liked: Oh, Oscar, how I love you! For the fall season, probably recognizing that their target clientele is not exactly hurting for cash during this recession, Oscar De La Renta continued on with the legacy of luxury that the line is known for. And oh, how luxurious!

What I Didn't Like: The fur. Yes, I know fur is a reality of the industry, it doesn't mean I LIKE it.

Derek Lam:

What I Liked: The sophisticated coats, and the clean simple lines.

What I Didn't Like: All the neutrals! I like color!

Thakoon:

What I Liked: The sleekness of the line, sophistication oozed from every stitch and every thread.

What I Didn't Like: Nothing! The line was fabulous!

Donna Karan:

What I Liked: Donna Karan's fall line really embraced fall with rich, chocolatey browns, paired with black. Nothing really inspired me, except the dress shown below. It was featured in Vogue's August issue, and seeing it wowed me to death.

What I Didn't Like: Frankly, it didn't interest me, kind of bland.

Carolina Herrera:

What I Liked: The glitzy bronze mixed with rich earth toned fur was a stunning combination.

What I Didn't Like: The horrible off-the-shoulders futuristic silver evening gown.

Jason Wu:

What I Liked: The fun and flirty skirts were mixed and meshed in with classic office staples, making for a stunning runway, that had my jaw dropping several times.

What I Didn't Like: A certain tiered blueberry colored dress. Blech.

Who Didn't Make the Cut and Why:

Ralph Lauren: For whatever reason, the two of us didn't click.

Calvin Klein: All black, with printed dresses (with black on those), and a hideous mustard yellow SHINY dress, did not impress me.

Vera Wang: The structure on some of the dresses were fantastic, but they weren't wearable, not accessible.

Michael Kors: I am all for simplicity, really, but this was pushing the limits. Some of those I could have made!

Narcisco Rodriguez: Meh. Weird cutout dresses. Nice for costume parties though!

Marc Jacobs: Welcome back Bucket Hat Girl and Bag Lady! How we have missed you!

Rodarte: I have seen the future... and it is ugly! Remember how in the ninties, we thought by the new millenium, we'd be in space, and everyone thought that we'd wear shiny suits, vinyl, and weird multi-colored boots? Well Rodarte is still livin' the dream.

Marc Jacobs: Some pieces made me think that the designer of this collection and Rodarte share dream diaries, and some pieces looked like they were pulled directly from Avril Lavigne's wardrobe- Pre platinum blonde hair days.

Diane Von Furstenberg: The shiny silver pants, indian jewelry, and camo wear did not sit well with me. Nor did the pom pom hats.

DKNY: Been there, done that. Nice try, sticking with the classics.

Alexander Wang: Black jacket over weird shirt/bra? Need I say more?

BCBG: I thought gold leggings were officially declared a taboo two years ago? I guess BCBG missed that memo. And then they paired that with a peacock patterned dress. Lovely. Really. I've almost regained complete eyesight after being blinded by that monstrosity.

Well that's it kiddies! All in all, I was rather disappointed by this season's collections, but we can always look forward to the winter collections! I hope soon to be reviewing Milan's Fashion Week soon, so look forward to that as well!

Check out the lines for yourself Here. And then come back here and let me know what YOU think.

Don't forget, tomorrow night at 10 PM is Project Runway's new season premier on it's new network Lifetime! I'll be watching with my popcorn avidly looking at the trainwrecks that are sure to happen EVENTUALLY. Remeber Santino Rice from season 2 infamously copying Austin Scarlett from season 1's dress? Help me to be on the lookout for the hottest new catchphrase since Christian Siriano's 'So Fierce!'

Have fun chickadee's!

OMG it's ETSY

I know, I know, you're probably sitting there going 'What the hell is an etsy?'

Etsy is this fantastic website, where users can post things up for sale in pretty much any category; vintage, handmade, jewelry, clothing, cloth, shoes, bags, ANYTHING!

I don't really peruse the handmade section, because, let's face it, some it looks like crap.

So I mainly go to the vintage section, where I have found a user that makes me wish I was a society girl, for the sole purpose of having events to wear her dresses.

Her user name is TimelessVixenVintage, and I worship the ground she walks on, for the offerings she brings me in form of silk, tulle, and all that is holy.

I don't know where she finds them, but she showcases some of the most fantastic dresses I have EVER seen, and this comes from the girl who watches the StyleNetwork religiously, and always, ALWAYS checks out NY Fashion Week.

Downside? The price tag. Most range upwards from $200. Ouch. But I'm seriously considering splurging for Homecomeing, 'cause I got my vintage prom dress so cheap!

But even if you can't afford them, I just like to look at them.

Here are a sampling of my favorites from TimelessVixenVintage:

Fulfilling a Promise....

Ummm...heh heh.... I said that I would put up the post about FreePeople tomorrow...about five days ago....

Yeah... akward....

I have no chocolate to ward you off this time, so I'll just get down to it:

FREE PEOPLE

Like ModCloth, what made me make with the clicky clicks was the name. Doesn't Free People just sound like a cool floaty name? Plus, the ads showed really pretty clothes.

Now, in all actuality, Free People is not exclusively an online store, in fact it has several locations in the country. However, none of them is in my state, so it's an online store to me, which kind of bums me out.

It's sister store is one most of us is probably familiar with: Urban Outfitters, which is probably one of my favorite stores ever.

When I went to the site to find items to feature in this post, I was saddened to find that most of the clothes I had admired were no longer being shown on the site, and most of the clothes up there now, do not really appeal to my tastes.

However, I will always find shoes and bags that I adore, so I will be featuring those below:

From Left to Right: Maraco Fringe Sandal $118.00; Stonewashed Leather Boot by Humanoid $688.00

From Left to Right:Fringe Frontier Bag $688.00; Tie Dye Beach Tote $98.00

You can find all of these items, and a listing of stores here: Here!

ENJOY!

So I Lied...So Sue Me! I Bring Offerings in the Form of Chocolate

It's not like anyone's reading this anyone, lol. I swore, something like two weeks ago, to update the very next day. I did not. Oh well. I have chocolate!!

My birthday is in two days, and I am VERY excited about it! My friends already gave me gifts, a couple of days early, 'cause it's summer, and I don't know when I'll see them, because I'm a working girl now. I got a VERY cute Woodstock teeshirt, a giftcard, a new book to read, and some M&M's, my favorite American chocolate.

But my favorite gift came in the form of a 1 oz. chocolate bar. Chocolate period makes me very happy, but this chocolate made me ecstatic. I am half American, half Australian, with my mother being Australian, and very much in touch with her/my family down under, so as such, I have had the extrememe pleasure of indulging in Australian sweets, which are very, VERY good.

The chocolate bar that my friend gave me was from a New Zealand company, and when I saw that, I literally said, 'Now THAT'S the good stuff'. Swear to God.

The company that makes it is called Bloomsberry & Co. And I would strongly suggest visiting their site, because it is ADORABLE! You can check it out Here.

Their chocolates are also extremely to the max, adorable. The bar I got was Emergency Chocolate, you can see it here (Click on it to see a bigger photo.):

Isn't the 'For Immediate Relief of' tres cute?

Here are some of the other one's that I spied with my little eye (Again, do the little clicky-click to see them bigger):

"Hi, my name is Lisa and I'm a chocolate addict."
Tee Hee

Hey! Where'd it go?!

Probably my favorite, read the Directions for Use, and then proceed to crack up with laughter.

Which one is your favorite? Or better yet, go to the site, and either post pictures of your favorite on your blog, and tell me! Inquiring minds want to know! Than, when your done, find where they sell them, and find out for yourself that they not only look good, but they taste GREAT!

P.S: Blogger's promise, the post that I was SUPPOSED to put up here, about FreePeople, my second favorite online shop, will be up tomorrow.

Online Shopping

I live in a place that is not exactly one of the fashion capitals of the world... so I am a bonafide online shopper, and proud of it! So because I know I am not the only teenage girl in the world who goes to her mall and asks herself, 'why me?', I am spotlighting three of my favorite online shops, and pointing out my favorites from each! Are you excited? I know I am! Here we go:

ModCloth
ModCloth first attracted me because of it's name, I absolutely love that name, and their ads showed the prettiest clothes, so I made with the clickies and fell in love with their clothes. They have a lot of cute dresses and skirts that have made homes in my closet. They also have a handy-dandy how-to guide for measuring yourself! Their shoes aren't half bad either, hell, who am I kidding, I want to build an altar and worship at their feet *tee hee, shoe humor*.

Tux Goes Lux Dress, $74.99

The Chicago Dress, $99.99

And no, not all the dresses are expensive, for instance:

Sidecar Tour Dress, $42.99

And then we MUST move onto the shoes:

Suma Cum Laude Oxfords, $34.99

Shady Lane Booties, $42.99

Also, another thing to love about ModCloth, is that the name some of their items in a cute, kitschy, pop culture reference-y kind of way. As a die-hard Gilmore Girls fan, and conversation-referencer myself, these tickle me pink. Such as Shady Lane Booties; The Naughty Lady of Shady Lane was a VERY popular song in the fifties. I should know, my grandpa plays the record for me every time i come to visit.

If you like any of the items you saw in this post, you can find all of them here

My next post will be on FreePeople, and should be out tomorrow.

Peace, Love, and Rock 'n Roll,
